Backlist, prices and how to order Lieferbare und vergriffene Titel
The Institute sells its own booklets and back issues of the Mitteilungen directly, and does not sell the series, which belongs to the publisher. There is no online shop and no order form; orders are taken by post, fax or e-mail and are invoiced. This page lists what is still available, what has gone out of print, the prices in force in 2024, and the few things the Institute will not supply.
1. What is available
| Publication | Available? | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Series, volumes 1 to 36 | Through the publisher | The Institute holds stock only of volumes 33, 34 and 35 and sells them at the published price plus postage. Earlier volumes must be ordered from the publisher or bought second-hand. |
| Series, volumes out of print | Not available as books | Volumes 1 to 9 and 12 are out of print. No reprint of any of them is contemplated while the printing budget is as it is. Single articles may be applied for as copies or image files. |
| Lüneburg ducal charters, vols. I to III | Vols. II and III available | Vol. I is out of print; a reprint is not planned, the demand being small. |
| Hildesheim monastery charters, vol. 1 | Available | Volume 2 in the press, to appear in autumn 2025. |
| Source booklets, nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 | Available | No. 2 went out of print in 2001; its contents will be absorbed into part 2 of the index of chancery formulae. |
| Mitteilungen, nos. 40 to 61 | Mostly available | Some issues are down to a few copies; nos. 1 to 39 are gone. |
| Mitteilungen, nos. 1 to 39 | Not available | Single articles can be supplied as copies or image files under the rules of use. |
| Centenary booklet of 1997 | Not sold | Given to partner institutions; a few copies remain and are given to visiting scholars. |
| Working notes printed internally | Given on application | Eight have been issued since 1996; single copies are sent free to institutions and scholars. A list is sent with the price list on request. |

Prices include the book trade's usual discount to booksellers of fifteen per cent on the Institute's own publications. Institutions ordering against an official order number are invoiced; private orders are payable on receipt of the invoice. The Institute cannot accept card payments, and does not issue receipts other than the invoice.
3. How to order
| By post | Academic office, Wolfenbüttel Institute for Numismatics, Diplomatics, Documentary Editing and Writing Laboratory, Am Alten Archiv 7, 38300 Wolfenbüttel, Germany |
| By fax | +49 (0)5331 4807-29 |
| By e-mail | sekretariat [at] winddew.lab, with the word "publications" in the subject line |
| What to state | The title or the number of the volume, the number of copies, the address for invoicing and the address for delivery if they differ, and any order number your institution requires. |
| How long it takes | Orders from stock are despatched within seven working days. Copies that must be made, and image files that must be captured, take longer, and you will be told the date when the work is arranged. |
| Exchange instead of purchase | Institutions may propose an exchange of publications rather than a sale; there are eleven such exchanges at present, and the Institute answers proposals within fifteen working days. |
4. What the Institute does not supply
- Whole volumes as copies. A volume that is out of print is not photocopied in its entirety, whether for a library or for an individual. Single articles are supplied instead.
- Electronic editions of the series. No volume of the series exists in electronic form, and none will be produced from the Institute's side; the rights rest with the publisher.
- Plate material at publication quality for commercial use. Plates are supplied for academic publication; commercial use requires a licence, which is granted sparingly and never for material whose rights belong to a third party.
- Valuations. No price list of coins, no opinion on the value of an object, and no certificate usable in a sale.
- Addresses of members of staff. Correspondence is routed through the academic office, and private addresses are not given out.
A note on the second-hand market. The Institute is occasionally asked to authenticate a copy of its own publications offered for sale. It does so gladly and without charge, provided the enquiry comes with the title page and the colophon; what it cannot do is say what a copy is worth. Two of the older volumes, nos. 1 and 12, are regularly offered at prices well above what they cost when new, which the Institute notes without endorsing.
Compiled by the academic office from the stock lists of the reference library and the despatch book; the prices were last confirmed with the publisher on 1 September 2026.
